“Hussam Aliwat has created a magnificent work without weak tracks and with an incredible appeal. Very little music can move so violently. It is full of contrast, but never disjointed. […] Born Now, […] is one of the year’s great experiences in modern jazz and contemporary world music.”
– POV. International, DK
“The sound of his Oud is powerful, almost disturbing, loaded with tension, anger and passion. A sort of breathless chase […] begins as if death were on the heels. The flavors of the Orient are present but distorted like often worrying shadows that stretch on the sand at sunset. An Orient of today, confronted with chaos, danger, exile and hope. […] It’s an explosion of universes, emotions, energy and creativity.”
– La Gazette Blue, FR
“There is magic of his own in his playing, that of great artists, and I certainly wouldn’t risk comparing him to such and such a musician, because Hussam Aliwat is self-sufficient.”
– Paris Move, FR
“He transgresses the norms of the oud as other geniuses have brokes the codes of their instruments: Piazzolla’s bandoneon, Jimi Hendrix’s guitar.”
